— About
My name is Gerald Wright, and I'm an experienced Graphic Designer with certified UX Design skills, looking for a job.
“Gerald has a passion that was infectious, and a sense of humor that made him a pleasure to work with.”
I’ve been a Graphic Designer for over ten years, and I enjoy creating visuals from Illustrations, branding designs to social media campaigns. So why did I become a UX Designer?
During the last six years as a digital graphic designer I realized how much I enjoyed researching the stakeholder’s user goals just as much as creating powerful brand designs. If the initial rough design was rejected and a project manager came to me to fix it, I always asked Why? The more questions I asked, the better my designs became and I started being called on by name when we had “picky-clients.” I didn’t realize until after I attended an SXSW design conference hosted by General Assembly that I’ve been clumsily using user-centered questioning techniques!
I appreciated the process of asking clients questions, synthesizing and ideating my designs to find the best solution just as much as making a finished pixel perfect email design.
In the fall of 2018, the company I worked for was bought out but, I knew what I wanted to do. To took the 10-week General Assembly UXDI course to help me transition into a UX Design career.
TL:DR - I became the go-to graphic designer at my old job, by asking user-centered questions, realized I also enjoyed backend user-experience design methods on top of the visual design and transitioned into a UX Design career.
